Terms & Conditions

These Terms & Conditions apply to work carried out by McKnight Painters. By accepting a quotation or asking McKnight Painters to carry out work, you agree to these terms.

Quotations
All quotations are based on the information and condition of the property available when the quotation is prepared.
The quotation will describe the work that has been discussed and agreed. If additional work becomes necessary, for example due to damaged plaster, rotten timber, loose or failing coatings, extensive preparation or other unforeseen conditions, this will be discussed with you before additional work is carried out wherever reasonably possible.
Quotes are normally valid for 30 days unless otherwise stated.

Booking and payment
A booking is confirmed once the date and scope of work have been agreed.
Unless otherwise agreed, payment is due on completion of the work.
For larger projects, a payment schedule or deposit may be agreed in advance and will be confirmed as part of the quotation.

Additional work
If you request additional work after the quotation has been agreed, the additional cost will be discussed and agreed before the work is carried out wherever reasonably possible.

Preparation and existing surfaces
Good preparation is an important part of any decorating project. McKnight Painters will carry out reasonable preparation appropriate to the agreed specification.
Existing surfaces can contain defects or problems that may only become apparent once work has started. These may include cracks, damp, mould, staining, loose plaster, failing paint, wallpaper or previous poor repairs.
Where such issues are discovered, you will be informed and additional preparation or remedial work may be recommended.
Painting and decorating cannot be guaranteed to permanently resolve an underlying building, damp or structural problem.

Colour and finish
Customers are responsible for confirming their chosen colours and finishes before work begins.
Colours can appear differently depending on lighting, surrounding colours and the condition of the surface. McKnight Painters cannot be responsible for dissatisfaction arising solely from a colour or finish selected by the customer.

Access and preparation by the customer
The customer is responsible for providing reasonable access to the areas being worked on.
Where possible, furniture and personal belongings should be removed from the working area before work begins. Items that cannot be removed should be discussed before work starts so that appropriate protection can be arranged.
The customer should also provide reasonable access to electricity and water where required.

Changes, delays and unforeseen circumstances
Every effort will be made to complete work within the agreed timescale. However, decorating work can be affected by circumstances outside McKnight Painters’ control, including unexpected surface conditions, drying times, access issues, other trades and unsuitable weather conditions for external work.
Where a delay occurs, this will be discussed with the customer as soon as reasonably possible.

Cancellation and postponement
If you need to cancel or postpone booked work, please provide as much notice as possible.
Where a cancellation or postponement results in costs being incurred or prevents another confirmed booking from being undertaken, McKnight Painters reserves the right to recover reasonable costs that have been incurred.
Any specific cancellation terms applying to a particular project will be explained at the time of booking.

Workmanship
McKnight Painters will carry out agreed work with reasonable care and skill and in accordance with the agreed specification.
If you have concerns about the workmanship, please raise them as soon as reasonably possible so that they can be discussed and, where appropriate, put right.

Materials
Unless otherwise agreed, paint and other materials included within the quotation will be selected in accordance with the agreed specification.
Where the customer supplies their own materials, McKnight Painters cannot be responsible for problems caused by the quality, suitability or performance of those materials.

Photographs
McKnight Painters may take photographs of completed work for use in its portfolio, website and social media.
No personal information or identifying details about customers will be published.
If you would prefer photographs of your property not to be used for promotional purposes, please let us know.

Liability
McKnight Painters will take reasonable care of your property and belongings while carrying out work.
Customers should make us aware of any particularly valuable, fragile or vulnerable items before work begins.
Nothing in these Terms & Conditions excludes or limits any liability that cannot legally be excluded or limited.

Acceptance of these terms
Acceptance of a quotation, confirmation of a booking or instruction for work to begin constitutes acceptance of these Terms & Conditions.
These Terms & Conditions may be updated from time to time. The version applying to your project will be the version in place when the work is agreed.
